  • You need not seek permission to use daily news or information having the character of a brief news item conveyed in a press notice; it is excluded from copyright protection.
  • You may faithfully quote excerpts from a work already made public, or individual published works of photography, fine art, architecture, applied art and industrial or graphic design, for scientific research, criticism, polemic, review, teaching or other commentary, to the extent justified by the purpose and fair practice.
  • Indicate the source and the author's name where they appear on the work used.

Article 8(1)(d) of the Law on Copyright and Related Rights excludes from copyright protection, before any use-based exception is reached, daily news or information having the character of a brief news item conveyed in a press notice.

Article 47 separately permits the faithful quotation of excerpts from a work already made public, or of individual published works of photography, fine art, architecture, applied art and industrial or graphic design, for scientific research, criticism, polemic, review, teaching or other commentary, to the extent justified by the purpose sought and in accordance with fair practice, with the source and the author's name indicated where they appear on the work used.

Neither provision is limited to the press or carries a headline-length or short-extract cap of its own, and no reported decision of a Bosnia and Herzegovina court applies either provision to a systematic news aggregator rather than an individual quoting a published work.
