What this law does
Article 292B of the Penal Code (292Β in the Greek text) punishes, with imprisonment and a fine, whoever without right seriously hinders or interrupts the operation of an information system by entering, transmitting, deleting, destroying or altering digital data or by blocking access to that data.
Paragraph 2 raises the punishment to imprisonment of at least one year and a fine where the act is committed with a tool designed mainly for attacks affecting a large number of information systems or causing serious damage. It rises to at least two years where the act caused serious damage. It rises to at least three years where the act was committed against information systems forming part of the infrastructure supplying the population with vital goods or services.
Article 292C (292Γ) separately covers producing, selling, obtaining for use, importing, possessing or distributing, without right and in order to commit the Article 292B offenses, devices or computer programs designed or adapted mainly for that purpose, and passwords, access codes or similar data enabling access to an information system.
