- An app that processes a faceprint, voiceprint, or other biometric identifier of a Turkmen data subject must treat it as confidential and limit its collection and processing to the purposes for which it was collected. Article 11(2) makes personal information held in electronic information resources, and biometric information, confidential and limits its collection and processing to the purposes for which it is collected. Article 7(7) leaves the particulars of collecting and processing biometric information to other legislation of Turkmenistan, and Article 1(1) defines biometric information. None of the three requires the operator to make, keep or produce a log or record.

What this law does
Biometric information is outside the list of special categories in Article 21 and is governed by separate provisions. Article 1 defines biometric information as information characterizing the physiological and biological features of a person and allowing the identity of the person to be established, and gives no illustrative list.
Article 11 makes personal information held in electronic information resources, and biometric information, confidential and limits its collection and processing to the purposes for which it is collected. Article 7 provides that the features of collecting and processing biometric information are established by the legislation of Turkmenistan.
