A snippet reproduction rule binding public and private bodies.
- Instrument type
- an act of a legislature
What it requires
- You need no permission under the Law to use bare facts, or the daily news and incidents of a news character that newspapers, magazines, international bulletins and broadcasting organizations publish (Article 4(1) and (3)).
- Do not copy the original arrangement, presentation or classification of such material: the Law protects a compilation distinguished by originality in those respects, though not the content presented (Article 4, closing paragraph).

What this law does
Article 4(1) excludes ideas, procedures, working methods, mathematical concepts, principles and bare facts from the protection the Law gives. Article 4(3) excludes the daily news, or incidents of a news character, that newspapers, magazines, international bulletins and broadcasting organizations publish.
The Law's protection applies to all of those categories where their compilation is distinguished by originality in arrangement, presentation or classification, without protecting the content presented. Article 37(1) requires every use under Articles 26 to 36 not to conflict with the normal exploitation of the work or unjustifiably prejudice the legitimate interests of rights holders. Article 61 applies the Law 180 days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
