What this law does
The National Information Technology Development Agency issued the Guidelines under section 6 of the NITDA Act of 2007, in consultation with the Nigerian Communications Commission. The Guidelines come into effect on the date of signature. Telecommunication companies must host all subscriber and consumer data within the country in line with existing legislation. Networking service companies must host all subscriber and consumer data within the country.
NITDA and the Nigerian Communications Commission enforce the Guidelines under the powers vested in them by their respective enabling laws. Any breach of the Guidelines is construed as a breach of the provisions of the NITDA Act of 2007 and other relevant laws or Federal Government directives in force in Nigeria.
