What it requires
- Do not produce, edit, distribute, screen or post a deepfake, meaning an AI-made virtual sound, image or video that is hard to distinguish from the real one, for election campaigning from 90 days before election day through election day.
- At any other time, label a deepfake you produce, edit, distribute, screen or post for election campaigning, as the National Election Commission Rules prescribe, so that people clearly recognize it as virtual information made with AI.

What this law does
No one may produce, edit, distribute, screen or post an AI-made virtual sound, image or video that is hard to distinguish from the real one for election campaigning from 90 days before election day through election day. Outside that period, anyone who produces, edits, distributes, screens or posts such material for election campaigning must label it, as the National Election Commission Rules prescribe, so that people clearly recognize it as virtual information made with AI.
A violation of the 90-day ban is punishable by imprisonment of up to seven years or a fine of 10 million to 50 million won. Omitting the label outside the 90-day period is subject to an administrative fine of up to 10 million won.
