What this law does
Article 8, paragraph 1 of Law 3471/2006 requires that, where calling line identification is provided, the calling user can prevent it call by call, by simple means and free of charge, and the calling subscriber can do so line by line. Paragraph 2 requires that the called user can prevent, by simple means and free of charge, the presentation of the calling line's identity on incoming calls.
Paragraph 3 requires that, where the identification is presented before the call is finally established, the called user can reject by simple means an incoming call whose caller has not allowed the presentation. Paragraph 4 requires that, where connected line identification is provided, the called user can remove it by simple means and free of charge for the calling user. Paragraph 6 makes the provider of the electronic communications services responsible for providing those abilities.
Paragraph 7 requires a provider of a public communications network or of a publicly available electronic communications service to keep means of overriding the suppression of calling line identification, among other cases to trace malicious or nuisance calls for a limited period at the subscriber's request. The override also applies to emergency calls to the competent public services or to private emergency bodies recognized by the State.
