What this law does
Article 63 makes accessibility mandatory on internet sites kept by companies with headquarters or commercial representation in Brazil or by government bodies, for use by persons with disabilities. Access to the information available must be guaranteed according to the best practices and accessibility guidelines adopted internationally. Under paragraph 1 the sites must carry the accessibility symbol in a prominent place.
Under paragraph 2 community telecentres that receive federal public funds for their operation or installation, and LAN houses, must have accessible equipment and facilities. Under paragraph 3 those telecentres and LAN houses must ensure that at least 10% of their computers have accessibility features for visually impaired persons, and at least one machine where the percentage is below one.
Article 64 requires the website accessibility of article 63 to be observed to obtain the financing referred to in article 54, item III. The Act enters into force 180 days after its official publication.
